Pharmacokinetics in Drug Discovery and Preclinical Development
INTRODUCTION
An informative two-day workshop, providing an interface between Pharmaceutical Research Project Leaders
and their teams, and collaborating Laboratory Scientists, such as those in DMPK groups. This workshop is
designed to encourage understanding of the essentials of Pharmacokinetics among those who produce
pharmacokinetic data, and those who use these data in making project decisions. The workshop combines
an overview of Pharmacokinetics with in-depth study of the strategy of incorporation of the subject into the
process of Lead Discovery, Translational Research and Medicine, through to Clinical Proof of Principle.
Appreciation of the role and positioning of pharmacokinetic data when integrated into the process of modern
industrial Drug Discovery and Preclinical Development is encouraged.
PURPOSE
To facilitate interpretation of pharmacokinetic data and related information to support project decisions and to
improve project delivery. Further, to enable research-based pharmaceutical and life sciences organizations
to dramatically improve the speed, quality and probability of successful drug discovery and development,
through integration of the discipline of Pharmacokinetics into the Drug Discovery Process. To encourage
the design of high quality pharmacokinetic programs, and to enable the choice of Development compounds
with appropriate physicochemical properties, bioavailability, clearance and apparent volume of distribution,
while focusing particularly on the extrapolation from animal data to human testing.
